Man charged with murder after fatal shooting in Tottenham

Suspect in custody over Waltheof Gardens shooting

Metropolitan Police detectives have charged a 56-year-old man with murder following a fatal shooting in Waltheof Gardens, Tottenham, on Tuesday, 15 October. Mahmut Sahindal, of no fixed address, also faces charges of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Sahindal was arrested shortly after the shooting and has been remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 17 October.

Police respond to gunfire, victim pronounced dead at scene

Officers rushed to reports of gunfire in Waltheof Gardens along with the London Ambulance Service. Despite emergency crews’ best efforts, the victim, who sustained a gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigation ongoing, family supported

The victim’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specialist officers. Police continue their enquiries to uncover the full circumstances behind the shooting.
