Man Charged with Murder After 79-Year-Old Dies in Shocking Philip Road Incident
Detectives have charged a man with murder following the death of 79-year-old Thomas Collier in Philip Road.
Gruesome Assault Leaves Father Dead
Emergency services rushed to Philip Road on Wednesday, 8 January after reports of a man suffering a head injury. Thomas Collier was taken to hospital but tragically died from his injuries shortly after.
Jimmy Collier Held on Murder Charge
Jimmy Collier, 41, from Philip Road, Witham, was arrested soon after the attack on suspicion of murder. He was formally charged and appeared before magistrates on Friday, 17 January. Collier has been remanded in custody and is set to face Chelmsford Crown Court on Monday, 20 January.

Detective Inspector Richard Canning, leading the investigation, said: “We’ve dedicated a team to this since day one. A grieving family is at the heart of our inquiry.”
“I urge everyone to avoid speculation as the court process unfolds. There will be time for all the facts to come out. We’re maintaining a visible police presence in Witham and want to reassure the community that there’s no wider risk.”
