Man Charged After Woman Falls from Height in Mitcham
A 47-year-old man from Mitcham has been slapped with serious charges following a harrowing incident in Mitcham Park. The man faces rape, assault, and false imprisonment accusations after a woman, believed to be in her 40s, fell from a height and sustained grave injuries.
Police Called to Mitcham Park
The drama unfolded just before 4 pm on Thursday, May 23. Police rushed to Mitcham Park after reports a woman had taken a fall from a height. Officers found the injured woman and rushed her to hospital, initially fearing her condition was life-threatening. Thankfully, she remains stable but seriously hurt.
Suspect Appears in Court
On Saturday, May 25, the suspect was charged not only with rape, false imprisonment, and assault, but also with threatening to share intimate photos or videos of the victim. He made a brief appearance at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court the same day.
The man was first arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody and is due back at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, June 21. Police confirmed the victim and accused are known to each other.
Investigation Ongoing – Police Seek Public Help
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:
“Police were called to Mitcham Park at 15:55hrs on Thursday, 23 May, after reports that a woman had fallen from a height. The woman, believed to be in her 40s, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital. She remains stable.
A 47-year-old Mitcham man was charged on Saturday, 25 May, with rape, false imprisonment, assault, and threatening to share intimate images. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remanded in custody to appear at Kingston Crown Court on 21 June.”
