Man Found Guilty of Murdering Sean O’Neill in West London
A man has been convicted for the murder of Sean O’Neill in West London following a thorough investigation by Metropolitan Police detectives. Dellan Charles, 23, with no fixed address, was found guilty on Tuesday, 17 December, at Kingston Crown Court.
The Arrest and Police Appeal
Police launched a public appeal on 26 March 2023 to track Charles down. Thanks to swift public tips, officers traced him within 24 hours to an address in Coventry. Charles was arrested and charged with Sean’s murder the following day.
“Sean found himself in the middle of a violent dispute between two groups. He was targeted by the defendant while he was running away and posing no threat,” said Detective Inspector Kevin Martin of Specialist Crime South.
“Sean was a much-loved son and brother, and I would like to pay tribute to his family who have remained resolute and dignified throughout the long manhunt and trial process.”
Tragic Incident in Hayes
Police were called to Reynolds Road, Hayes, on the evening of Thursday, 18 May 2023, after reports of a stabbing. Emergency services found 30-year-old Sean O’Neill suffering from fatal stab wounds. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The court heard that Charles chased Sean after a violent altercation between two groups. Separated from his friends, Sean was stabbed as he tried to escape. A post-mortem report confirmed death by sharp force trauma to the chest and abdomen.
Family Tribute
“It has been an extremely challenging 19 months since Sean was taken from us. Today’s verdict won’t bring Sean back or ease our unimaginable grief, but we are grateful the person responsible has been held to account,” said Sean’s family.
“Sean will be remembered for his big heart, charming smile, and fun-loving personality. He is incredibly loved by us all and missed every day.”
