Tragic Death in Liverpool City Centre Crash

A man has died following a serious collision in Liverpool City Centre in the early hours of Saturday, October 7. The crash happened at around 1:10am on The Strand (southbound) involving a white Audi TT, a grey Toyota Auris, and a pedestrian.

44-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies After Collision

The 44-year-old male pedestrian sustained severe injuries and was treated at the scene before being rushed to hospital. Sadly, police have confirmed he has since died. A post-mortem will determine the exact cause of death.

Driver Charged and Remanded

Connor Mears, 28, with no fixed address, was behind the wheel of the white Audi TT. He has been charged in connection with the incident. Mears appeared at Wirral Magistrates Court on Monday, October 9, where he pleaded guilty to all charges. He remains in custody and is set to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on November 6.

Two Others Released Pending Enquiries

A 53-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man from Southport, initially arrested in connection with the crash, have been released while investigations continue.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

“We offer our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time. They are receiving support from specially trained officers,” said Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, lead investigator. “We also thank the local community for their help, especially those who assisted the injured at the scene.”

DS Timpson urged anyone with information to come forward. “Even the smallest detail could prove crucial.”
