Man Found Guilty of Rape in Brighton Park
A 45-year-old man with no fixed address, Alieu George, has been convicted of raping a woman in Dorset Gardens, Brighton. The jury at Brighton Crown Court found him guilty of rape and sexual assault by penetration on 17 December.
Bystanders Spot Shocking Attack in Broad Daylight
On the morning of Sunday 22 June, several members of the public noticed a woman looking distressed in Dorset Gardens at 9.05am. They then witnessed a disturbing scene: George lying on top of the woman on the ground.
Three quick-thinking bystanders rushed to call the police. When officers arrived, the victim was visibly upset, while George claimed the woman was his girlfriend.
Victim’s Harrowing Account Reveals Sickening Assault
The 34-year-old victim told police she had been out drinking after work when George approached her. He made excuses to separate her from her friends before subjecting her to repeated sexual assaults. He then led her to Dorset Gardens where he carried out the rape.
George was arrested on suspicion of rape the same day and later charged.
Remanded in Custody Ahead of March 2026 Sentencing
After the guilty verdict, George was remanded in custody. He will be sentenced on 10 March 2026.
