Huddersfield Man Banned for Three Years After Racist Abuse at Anfield
A Huddersfield man has been slapped with a three-year Football Banning Order following a shocking incident at Anfield Stadium in April.
Racist Abuse Rocks Liverpool vs Huddersfield Game
During the Liverpool v Huddersfield Town clash on Friday 26 April, police received reports of racist abuse aimed at a Liverpool player. John Brook, 54, of Imperial Road, Huddersfield, was arrested on the spot. He was charged with a racially and religiously aggravated public order offence.
Swift Justice at Bootle Magistrates Court
Brook appeared at South Sefton Magistrates Court in Bootle on Friday 17 May. He was handed a three-year Football Banning Order, banning him from all organised sporting events. On top of that, he was fined for his despicable behaviour.
Police Clamp Down on Hate Crime at Football Matches
“This was a despicable incident in which Brook verbally abused a player,” said Match Commander Superintendent Paul White. “Harassment, especially racially or religiously aggravated, will not be tolerated. We are doing all we can to eradicate such behaviour and punish offenders strongly.”
He added: “Spectators and participants shouldn’t have to tolerate hate crime, which often leaves families and young people fearful. We work closely with Liverpool FC and other clubs to keep football venues safe.”
“We will pursue offenders relentlessly. Anyone witnessing this behaviour should report it immediately to stewards or police. If you have info but want to stay anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
This conviction sends a clear message: racist abuse at football matches will be met with serious consequences.
