Paedophile Michael King Jailed for 10 Years in Leeds
A Leeds man has been slammed with a hefty 10-year prison sentence after a string of horrific sex crimes against a young girl came to light.
Unanimous Verdict in Shocking Child Sexual Abuse Case
Michael King, 33, was convicted on multiple counts including three rapes of a child under 13, four sexual assaults on a child under 13, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The jury delivered unanimous guilty verdicts following a June trial.
King was handed 10 years for the rape charges plus a concurrent four years for other offences. On top of this, he faces a one-year extended licence period, lifelong registration on the Sex Offenders Register, and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.
Brutal Abuse Spanned Six Months, Victim Found Courage to Speak Out
The abuse happened over six terrifying months. It finally came to light in December last year when the victim bravely confided in a friend.
King was arrested on Christmas Eve and denied all charges, even during interviews on Christmas Day. He was charged with rape and appeared at Leeds Magistrates Court on Boxing Day, where he was remanded in custody.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery, Call on Others to Speak Up
“The victim was incredibly vulnerable, and King’s crimes have had a devastating impact on her life,” said Detective Inspector Mark Tester of Leeds District Safeguarding Unit.
“She showed huge courage by giving evidence under special measures, which meant her testimony was video-recorded ahead of the trial to reduce court trauma.”
“We hope the victim and her family find some comfort now that King is behind bars. We take offences like this very seriously and encourage other victims to come forward. You will be listened to and supported.”
