Man Jailed After Dangerous Chain of Events Involving Vintage Truck and Chainsaw
Vintage Truck Rampage Ends in Jail
Geoff Marshall, 41, from Norton Fitzwarren, is behind bars for two years after a wild spree of chaos on September 10. The court found him guilty of assault by beating, criminal damage, and dangerous driving at Taunton Crown Court.
Police Called to Woman’s Distress – Marshall’s Shocking Escape Attempt
Officers were responding to a woman’s emergency call on Station Road when Marshall spotted the police and made a desperate run for it in his rare 1958 M35 truck. Instead of a quiet getaway, he smashed into police cars and reversed into a nearby property, causing major damage.
Chainsaw Threat & Vehicle Carnage
As officers tried to drag him from the cab by breaking the truck’s window, Marshall brandished a chainsaw, threatening their lives. He then smashed through multiple police vehicles, hitting five empty cars and even a lamppost. The terrifying rampage ended near an M5 over-bridge.
Risk of Death and Reckless Behaviour
Marshall climbed dangerously over the wrong side of a motorway barrier, putting himself and others at risk. Officers managed to coax him back and arrested him safely. Judge Edward Burgess called his actions “extremely reckless,” warning of the serious risk of death to those involved. He handed down a two-year prison term plus a two-year driving ban.
Police Praise and Community Impact
Detective Inspector Claire Millington lauded the bravery of her team facing Marshall’s aggressive assault. She revealed the damage cost hundreds of thousands of pounds and severely disrupted emergency services and local traffic. The community and motorway users were left dealing with the aftermath of this shocking incident.
