Man Jailed for Over 10 Years After Fatal Horwich Crash

Shocking Ketamine-Fuelled Crash Claims Life of Young Biker

A man from Bolton has been sentenced to over 10 years in prison for causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal collision on Chorley Old Road, Bolton.

On the evening of 14 December 2024, Spencer Rothwell-Poole, 22, from Horwich, was riding his motorbike when a Skoda Fabia, driven by Cormac Sale from Sale, crashed into him. Tragically, Spencer died at the scene.

Police found Sale nearly 10 times over the legal limit for ketamine. CCTV footage and witness reports revealed he was driving erratically all evening and had even switched to the wrong side of the road just before the fatal collision.

Heartbroken Family Speak Out

Spencer’s dad: “He was very kind and thoughtful, always with a smile despite being shy. On that night, I hugged my boy for the last time and told him to stay safe. One mindless person took him from us. Cormac Sale didn’t just kill my son, he destroyed our family. I will never forgive him.”

Spencer’s brother: “Losing him has nearly killed me. He was my best friend and a careful rider who always followed the rules. I miss him every day.”

Police Crackdown on Dangerous Driving

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have stressed their commitment to tackling dangerous driving. In the past year alone, over 70 arrests have been made for causing serious injury or death by dangerous driving.

As part of a new dashcam submission portal launched by GMP, more than 400 arrests were made for drink and drug driving, with the public urged to report unsafe driving footage to help prevent tragedies like Spencer’s death.

Road Safety Warning from GMP

Detective Constable James Maskrey: “This sentencing highlights the horrific consequences of reckless, drugged driving. Someone behind the wheel under ketamine loses control, putting everyone at risk. Spencer’s loss is heartbreaking and nothing can undo it, but we hope this verdict brings some justice. We remain committed to removing dangerous drivers from our roads.”
