The court case followed a serious police investigation launched on 6 October 2023. Officers were called to Knight’s address in Grays at around 3:40am after 19-year-old Ashton Rowbotham was found with fatal neck injuries. Sadly, Ashton died at the scene.

Knight was initially charged with murder, alongside drug and weapon offences. But after review, the murder charge was dropped. Four others linked to aggravated burglary were arrested then released as the probe continued.

“When officers searched Knight’s address, a large quantity of cannabis and cocaine was found,” said Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate. “No matter the circumstances, drug dealing offences are taken seriously, and we’re committed to cutting drugs off the streets of Essex. Our thoughts remain with Ashton Rowbotham’s family, who we kept updated throughout.”
