Man Gets Suspended Sentence for Shocking Child and Animal Abuse Images

Nicholas Hughes, 56, from Trinity View, Caerleon, Newport, has been slapped with a 12-month suspended prison sentence for possessing vile indecent images of children and animals. The disturbing case was heard at Salisbury Crown Court on Friday, April 26.

Terrifying Scale of Offences Uncovered

Hughes’ crimes took place over eight years, from March 2014 to May 2022. The court heard he:

  • Created 250 Category A indecent photos of children
  • Owned 104 extreme pornographic images featuring animals
  • Held 6 prohibited images of children
  • Produced 37 Category B and 84 Category C indecent images of children

Alongside the suspended sentence, Hughes was slapped with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Police Praise Those Who Faced the Horrifying Case

Detective Constable Kerry Foster of the Child Internet Exploitation Team said the case was “challenging” but expressed gratitude to those involved, including Hughes’ family, for their “patience and courage” during the proceedings.

“These offences spanned several years and involved multiple devices,” said DC Foster. “Wiltshire Police take sexual assault and related crimes extremely seriously. We have a dedicated team pursuing offenders involved in the online exploitation of children.”
