Man Escapes Jail but Gets Suspended Sentence for Stalking Spree in Chippenham
20-Week Prison Sentence Suspended for Two Years
Mark Bowler, from Englishcombe Lane in Bath, has been handed a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for two years, following a stalking and harassment case in Chippenham. The suspect admitted guilt at Salisbury Magistrates Court on Monday (24/06).
Chilling Campaign of Harassment
Bowler’s reign of terror began in January 2024, bombarding his victims with emails and social media messages. Over time, the tone shifted from annoying to threatening.
His stalking escalated in March when he tracked down one victim’s workplace and repeatedly turned up, masquerading as different people. The victims reported their ordeal to Wiltshire Police on March 7, which led to Bowler’s arrest earlier this month.
Sentencing Details
- 16 weeks prison for stalking
- 4 weeks for harassment (to run consecutively)
Both sentences are suspended for two years. Bowler also received a three-year restraining order. He must pay £154 in victim costs and £400 to cover legal fees.
Police Praise Victims’ Courage
Lead investigator LCI O’Harney said: “I’d like to thank the victims for their courage in reporting these stalking and harassment incidents and their resilience during the investigation.”
“Bowler showed blatant disregard for people’s safety and property. His invasive actions caused victims to live in fear.”
Help and Support for Victims
If you or someone you know is suffering from stalking or harassment, Wiltshire Police urge you to come forward. “We understand how hard it can be but officers and partner organisations are ready to help and support you,” O’Harney added.
