Burglary Horror: Man Jailed Over Violent Raid on 86-Year-Old

A 43-year-old thug, David Taylor, has been locked up for three years and eight months at Antrim Crown Court today, Thursday 29 August. The crook was found guilty of a terrifying burglary, false imprisonment, attempted burglary, drug possession, and criminal damage.

Terrifying Home Invasion in Ballymena

Taylor pleaded guilty back in May to a string of offences, including breaking into an 86-year-old woman’s home in Hollybank Park, Ballymena. In the early hours of 30 November 2022, he forced his way inside and ransacked the property while the terrified pensioner was trapped in her bedroom.

Attempting to flee, the victim tried to escape through the back door but Taylor dragged her back inside. He spent several hours inside the home before leaving with stolen bank cards, cash, jewellery, and bank books.

Detective Slams “Complete Violation” of Safety

“The thought of someone being in your home, a place rightly supposed to be a place of safety, is a complete violation of your security,” said Detective Inspector McDowell.

He called the crime “disturbing and very frightening” and highlighted the lasting emotional trauma such offences cause beyond mere financial loss. Inspector McDowell also thanked the victim for her cooperation and hoped the prison sentence offers her some peace of mind.

Serious Sentence Sends Strong Message

Taylor will serve half his sentence behind bars, with the remainder on licence. Besides burglary and false imprisonment, he was convicted of attempted burglary, possessing a Class B drug, and two counts of criminal damage.

Local authorities urge anyone with information about similar crimes to come forward, stressing the vital need to protect vulnerable members of the community from such brutal attacks.
