Essex Cop Faces Five Serious Charges
Matthew Olive, 26, from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He faces five counts of misconduct in public office, accused of abusing his police access to dig up and share data without permission.
- Three charges claim Olive performed unauthorised searches and circulated the info via WhatsApp to people outside the force.
- One charge involves a woman who allegedly asked him to access her telephone number on police databases between 29 December 2022 and 1 January 2023.
- A fifth charge accuses Olive of offering to look up details on the same woman on 22 June 2023, with no policing reason whatsoever.
Bail Granted, Court Date Set
District Judge Tan Ikram granted Olive bail. He must next appear at Southwark Crown Court on 21 January. The indictable-only charges underline the gravity of the alleged misconduct.
