Met Police Officer Booted After Sexual Assault Allegation
PC Jonathan Lee, a Met police officer with the West Area Command Unit, has been sacked following a professional standards investigation. The officer faced a sexual assault allegation from an incident in 2019 while off duty.
Sexual Assault Claim Sparks Criminal Probe
The offence reportedly happened during a social outing with colleagues on June 25, 2019. A woman accused Lee of sexual assault, triggering a police criminal investigation. However, on November 10, 2022, Isleworth Crown Court found him not guilty after a two-day trial.
Gross Misconduct Panel Overrules Court Verdict
Despite the court clearing him, the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards insisted Lee faced gross misconduct charges. An independent panel reviewed the evidence and dismissed Lee without notice, also placing him on the College of Policing barred list, banning him from policing jobs for life.
“I know the public will be concerned to hear of another officer dismissed for misconduct of a sexual nature,” said Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson. “The Commissioner has made it crystal clear we are rooting out officers whose actions undermine public trust. It is right that PC Lee has been dismissed.”
Met Pledges Continued Accountability
PC Lee had been on restricted duties throughout the investigation. The Metropolitan Police remain committed to safeguarding public trust and holding officers accountable for misconduct.
