Thunderous Gunfire Rocks Quiet Thorntree Street
Chaos erupted on May 7, 2025, when gunshots shattered the peace in Middlebeck Close, Thorntree, Middlesbrough. Around 11:10 p.m., Cleveland Police responded to frantic calls reporting shots fired at a residential property.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported. But the terrifying incident sparked a major police operation, with officers sealing off the scene late into the night.
Detective Chief Inspector Dave Snaith said: “We don’t believe there’s a wider threat, but we’re committed to finding those responsible. High-visibility patrols will continue in the area.”
Two Charged with Attempted Murder – More Arrests Made
In a swift crackdown, two 34-year-old men have been charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. They are set to face Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 23 May.
Police didn’t stop there:
- Three teenage boys (15, 16 & 17) were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but later released on bail.
- A 35-year-old man and 41-year-old woman were also taken in for conspiracy to possess firearms with intent to endanger life. Both remain on bail pending further inquiries.
Community Left Stunned and Scared
Residents flooded social media with shock and fear. One Twitter user tweeted: “Another shooting in Middlesbrough? Feel like nowhere’s safe anymore.” Another added: “Middlebeck Close used to be quiet. What’s happening to our town?”
The incident has deeply shaken Thorntree, traditionally a peaceful residential area.
