Orpington Man Fined £576 for Shocking Upskirting at Co-op

Joseph Farage, 31, from Foxwood Grove, has been slapped with a £576 fine after admitting to ‘upskirting’ a woman inside a Co-op store. The vile incident happened on July 17, 2024, when Farage sneaked his phone under the victim’s clothing to spy on her private areas without consent.

Farage Caught and Convicted at Croydon Magistrates’ Court

Farage pleaded guilty at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on January 17, accepting full responsibility for the disgusting act. Along with the hefty fine, he was also ordered to pay £200 compensation to his victim.

The magistrates noted Farage’s lack of prior convictions helped keep the sentence reasonable, but made it clear the offence was taken very seriously.

Upskirting Illegal Since 2019—but Still Happens All Too Often

Since the law came into force in 2019, upskirting has been a criminal offence in England and Wales, targeting people who covertly record intimate images without consent. The legislation was introduced to close loopholes and punish offenders harshly.

Farage’s conviction shines a spotlight on the ongoing battle to keep public spaces safe from these invasive and humiliating attacks.
