Orpington Man Jailed for 13 Years in Road Rage Crash That Killed Moped Rider

Deadly Road Rage on A244

A 53-year-old Orpington man was slammed with a 13-year jail term after deliberately crashing his car into a moped, killing 36-year-old Wayne Wigley in a brutal road rage attack.

Neil Sullingston, driving a white Seat Ibiza, launched the deadly hit on the A244 near Esher in the early hours of 1 July 2024. The verdict came down at Guildford Crown Court after damning dashcam and CCTV footage revealed the chilling chase.

Fatal Collision Caught on Camera

Jurors heard how tensions between Sullingston and Mr Wigley had been boiling over for weeks, with previous road rage incidents reported to police on 16 May and 5 June 2024.

At around 6:19am, Mr Wigley hurled a rock, smashing Sullingston’s rear window. Seconds later, Sullingston swerved into the filter lane, hit the moped at speed without braking or swerving, and sent Wayne flying from his scooter.

The impact severed Wayne’s lower right leg, and despite heroic attempts by bystanders and emergency crews, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute

“Wayne is dearly missed by his seven children, his mum, dad, partner, sister, and all his friends. He was strong-minded, loyal, generous, and funny — a keen fisherman, a skilled banger racer, and a gifted car mechanic. We thank all our family and friends for their support through this horror.”

Judge Condemns ‘Deliberate and Reckless’ Attack

The judge blasted Sullingston’s actions as a “deliberate and reckless act of violence” showing a “callous disregard for human life.”

Sullingston denied murder but was convicted of manslaughter and is now set to serve 13 years behind bars.
