Oxford Auction House Robbery Culprit Jailed After Dramatic Sting
A man has landed behind bars following a daring robbery at an Oxford auction house nearly two years ago.
Suhail Mitha, 33, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to three years and nine months at Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday, 18 March. He pleaded guilty to robbery linked to the daylight heist.
£48,000 Ring Snatched in Broad Daylight
The robbery unfolded on 25 April 2023, around midday, when Mitha and his accomplice Adil Khan targeted a valuable ring at an auctioneers on St. Michaels Street, Oxford. The stolen ring later sold for a staggering £48,000.
Security Guard Attacked in Clash
Khan stormed into the auction house, attempting to snatch the ring. A quick-thinking security controller stopped him but suffered a bitten hand, bruising, and a smashed watch during the tussle.
Meanwhile, Mitha waited outside in a getaway car. CCTV shows him hesitating at the door, then driving off, leaving Khan to face the security response alone.
Accomplice Snared and Sentenced to 12 Years
Khan was caught red-handed and charged the next day. On 30 June 2023, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison and slapped with a Serious Violence Prevention Order.
After a thorough investigation, Mitha was charged on 12 October 2024 and has now been locked up for his role in the robbery.

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said:
“This sentencing sends a clear message that even those who attempt to distance themselves from violent offences will be held accountable. We’re pleased that both individuals responsible for this robbery have now faced justice.”
