Two Jailed for Brutal Teen Assault in Ellesmere Port
Two men have been locked up over a savage attack on an 18-year-old in Ellesmere Port. Thomas Byrne, 32, from HMP Berwyn, admitted to helping an offender. Joseph Farrell, 22, of HMP Altcourse, pleaded guilty to a string of charges including section 18 assault, carrying a weapon in public, driving offences, and handling stolen goods.
Chester Crown Court Hands Down Harsh Sentences
On Wednesday, November 8, Chester Crown Court sentenced Farrell to six years behind bars, plus an extra three years on licence. Byrne got 16 months in prison for his role. The pair now face jail for their part in what was described as a “punishment attack.”
Daylight Attack Saw Teen Left Seriously Injured
The assault happened on July 14, 2022. Farrell and two others, all masked with balaclavas, drove from the Wirral to Worcester Walk where they targeted the teenager. They rammed the victim off his bike, then chased him down. Despite his desperate bid to escape, they caught him, forced him to the ground, and dealt brutal blows.
The thugs fled, leaving the teen bleeding and injured against a fence. A passer-by alerted police, and the victim was rushed to hospital. Emergency surgery was needed after tendons in his limbs were severed, causing potentially permanent damage.
