Plymouth Man Jailed for Firing BB Gun in Launceston Town Centre

A 23-year-old Plymouth man has been locked up for over three years after firing a BB gun at strangers in Launceston, leaving one seriously injured.

The Shocking Attack

Aiden Cashley, from Budshead Road, Plymouth, got into a heated row with a group of strangers just after 11pm on 28 December 2024. After a tense verbal exchange, he left the scene, claiming he needed to “get something.”

Cashley returned moments later, pulling out a disguised BB gun hidden in his clothes. He fired multiple shots into the group, hitting one man repeatedly in the arm. The victim suffered serious injuries and needed surgery.

Swift Arrest and Harsh Sentence

Cashley tried to run but was tackled by members of the public and held until police arrived. Officers arrested him on the spot and confiscated the imitation weapon.

  • Charged with possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
  • Charged with assault causing actual bodily harm
  • Pleaded guilty at Truro Crown Court
  • Sentenced on 4 March 2025 to 3 years and 1 month in prison
  • Weapon ordered to be destroyed

Police React

“We welcome the sentence given to Cashley, who carried out this random and serious attack on a group of people who were not known to him,” said Detective Constable Hannah Ackford.

“There are so many risks associated with possessing weapons, and no good can come from it.”

Police Plea to the Public

Police are urging anyone who suspects someone is carrying weapons to report it immediately to prevent further violence.

If you witness or have information about violent crime:
