Paramedic Savagely Attacked in Coventry – Accused Faces Multiple Charges
A West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic was left with a broken jaw after a shocking assault in Coventry. Police have charged 21-year-old Jamie Davies over the brutal attack on Sunday evening (5th April) in the Earlsdon area.
Man Charged with Wounding and Dangerous Driving
Davies allegedly lashed out after calling ambulance crews to his Winifred Avenue home. He was arrested yesterday and now faces serious charges:
- Wounding
- Dangerous driving – accused of crashing into the ambulance while fleeing the scene
- Driving without a licence or insurance
- Criminal damage – for breaking a glass door pane at a doctor’s surgery in Baliol Road on 31 March
He is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court via video link today (7th April).
Paramedic Seriously Injured, But Recovering
The victim, a 40-year-old paramedic with over six years’ service, needed surgery to insert a metal plate into his fractured jaw. Thankfully, he is now out of hospital and recovering at home, though he faces a lengthy recovery and months off work.
West Midlands Ambulance Service Furious
“This was a horrendous assault on one of my staff. At a time when the NHS is under more pressure than ever, losing an experienced paramedic to a cowardly attack is beyond belief,” said Anthony Marsh, CEO of West Midlands Ambulance Service. “We are determined to work with police to bring anyone who attacks my staff to justice.”
We send our best wishes to the injured paramedic and hope for his full recovery.
