Tragedy in Clacton as elderly woman dies from head injury
Police Called to Turpins Close Incident
Emergency crews rushed to Turpins Close, Clacton, just before 1pm on Tuesday, February 21, following reports of a serious incident. Officers and ambulance teams found a woman in her 80s suffering from a severe head injury.
Woman Dies After Hospital Treatment
She was swiftly taken to hospital but sadly passed away later. A post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine the cause of death.
Man Arrested and Charged With Murder
Detectives launched an immediate investigation, and an 84-year-old man, John Berry — known to the victim and also from Turpins Close — was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has now been formally charged.
Berry is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 23.
Police Express Deep Sympathy
“This incident has deeply affected everyone who has had a hand in the Essex Police response,” said Detective Chief Inspector Ant Alcock.
“I want to also take this opportunity to offer my sincere sympathy to all those affected in this case – it is simply a tragedy.”
