Exclusive: Police launch urgent hunt for masked gunman in Orange Just Eat jacket after teen shot dead in South London.
Targeted Killing Shocks Stockwell
Police are desperate to find a moped rider clad in a bright orange Just Eat jacket linked to the chilling shooting of 16-year-old Lathaniel Burrell. The teen was gunned down on Paradise Road, near Studley Estate, Stockwell, just after 3pm on Tuesday, March 4.
The Old Bailey heard the hit was a “targeted and premeditated attack”. The masked assassin wore a crash helmet, gloves, and the distinctive delivery jacket, firing a fatal shot into Lathaniel’s chest before speeding off on a stolen Honda moped.
Getaway Driver and Teen Charged
Meanwhile, 32-year-old Omar Prempeh faces murder charges as the alleged get-away driver who fled the scene in a Nissan Juke. Prempeh appeared in court via video link from Belmarsh Prison on March 12.
“He was the secondary party in a premeditated and targeted shooting in the street,” Judge Rebecca Trowler KC said, remanding him in custody. A plea hearing is set for May 29 and a trial is provisionally scheduled for December 1.
In a separate case, a 17-year-old boy has also been charged with the murder. He appeared at Bromley Magistrates’ Court and will face the Old Bailey soon.
Loved Ones Remember Bright Teen
Lathaniel’s family described him as a promising student and huge Manchester United fan who loved his PlayStation 5. A close family friend said, “He was very bright at school and had so much potential.” Their grief was palpable at Wednesday’s hearing.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The Metropolitan Police are appealing for anyone who spotted a moped rider in the orange jacket around the Paradise Road area to come forward. CCTV shows the gunman was on the scene for just 20 seconds before the shooting.
