Dangerous Drivers Slammed at Bexley Court

This week at Bexley Magistrates’ Court, ten motorists from south east London faced the hammer for dangerous and illegal driving. Charges ranged from high-speed offences to drink- and drug-driving. The verdict? Bans, fines, and rehab orders to curb their reckless behaviour.

Drink-Driving Fines and Bans Hit Hard

  • Amber Downs, 21, of Sidcup, caught with 92 mcg alcohol per 100 ml breath, fined £1,295 and banned for 24 months (can be cut by 24 weeks). (VW Polo, Avery Hill Road, Eltham – April 21)
  • Karnail Kular, 55, of Grays, banned for 18 months and fined £253 after testing 67 mcg while driving a Ford Transit. (Westhorne Avenue, Eltham – April 24)
  • Tyler Miler, 25, from Lewisham, slapped with a 12-month ban (reducible by 13 weeks) and fined £253 after a 44 mcg breath test. (BMW, Bromley Hill – April 6)

Drug-Driving Offenders Receive Tough Penalties

  • Charlie Browne, 25, Thamesmead, banned for 15 months and fined £253 after THC levels hit 4 µg/L. He also pled guilty to driving without a licence and cannabis possession. The drug was destroyed. (Ford Fiesta, Eltham – March 20)
  • Dotun Falaiy, 25, Plumstead, banned for 12 months and fined £379 after testing 5.3 µg/L THC. (Mercedes C-Class, Plumstead – February 20)
  • Rytis Cernauskas, 28, Welling, banned a hefty 36 months and fined £253 after 3.7 µg/L THC detected. (Vauxhall Astra, Lewisham – March 25)

Speeding Fines and Short Bans Hit Local Drivers

  • Selda Uraz, 27, Eltham, caught speeding over 20 mph, fined £358 and banned for 56 days. (Mercedes AMG, Amersham Road, New Cross – January 22)
  • Peter Everard, 67, Welling, fined £100 for exceeding 20 mph. (Jeep Renegade, Sydenham – September 30, 2024)
  • Stephen Howes, 56, Bromley, fined £381 and banned 7 days after breaking 40 mph limit. (Toyota Corolla, A20 Sidcup Bypass – March 13, 2024)
  • Derick Brefo, 38, Eltham, slapped with a £140 fine and 3 penalty points for speeding over 40 mph. (Renault Captur, A20 Sidcup Bypass – May 24, 2024)

Magistrates warned: “Irresponsible driving puts lives at risk.” They stressed rehabilitation and road safety education are vital for offenders.
