Romford Man Busted in Massive East London Car Theft Spree

A 35-year-old man from Romford faces an avalanche of charges after a police crackdown on vehicle crime in East London. Steven Crispin has been hit with 26 offences linked to 16 victims, covering theft, fraud, burglary, and carrying a knife in public.

Massive Haul of Charges

Crispin was arrested on December 20 in Harold Hill. Police caught him red-handed with a stolen car, a knife, and pilfered items including bank cards. He now faces:

  • 4 counts of burglary
  • 7 counts of motor vehicle theft
  • 5 counts of vehicle interference
  • 4 counts of theft from a motor vehicle
  • 1 attempted theft from a motor vehicle
  • 2 counts of fraud by false representation
  • 1 count each of shoplifting, theft, and knife possession in public

Crispin appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on December 22 to face the charges.

Police Strike Back After Burglaries and Fraud Spate

The arrest follows a joint Essex Police and Metropolitan Police operation targeting a wave of vehicle crimes in Romford. The probe kicked off on December 19 after cops received reports of burglaries, vehicle thefts, store thefts, and fraud all happening close to one another.

One victim from South Ockendon had his keys and car stolen from outside his home on Orchard Road. Thieves also took his handbag with bank cards, which were later used fraudulently on the very same night.

Top Cops Praise Swift Action to Tackle Crime

“This quick, decisive action sends a clear message that we’re cracking down on vehicle theft and property crime,” said Chief Inspector Tony Atkin, Thurrock district commander. “Keeping our communities safe remains our top priority.”

Detective Chief Inspector Alan Blakesley, Essex’s car theft task force lead, added: “Vehicle theft is becoming more complex, but our combined efforts with Roads Policing, Stolen Vehicle units, intelligence teams, and local officers are a strong force against crime. We work closely with other agencies and businesses to cut off routes for stolen vehicle disposal, sharing intelligence and chasing offenders wherever they go.”
