Science Teacher Caught With Thousands of Child Abuse Images
A science and technology teacher has been busted with thousands of child abuse images. Shocking new details reveal he sexually assaulted one of his pupils nearly 20 years ago.
NCA Crack Down After Google Tip-Off
The National Crime Agency (NCA) launched a major probe in November 2021. The investigation began after Google flagged a user sharing child abuse material via the US-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
They quickly identified the culprit as Mark Langford, 55, and swooped on his home in Beccles, Suffolk.
Disturbing Abuse Spanning Years
Further inquiries uncovered Langford groomed and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old pupil in Lowestoft between 2004 and 2006.
The NCA found a chilling letter Langford penned last April, instructing the victim on how to lie if questioned:
“Before you talk to him, please remember that it is his job to convict me – please do not give him any accidental ammunition against me. You can tell him you know I’m a porn addict, and that I was arrested for having indecent images of children. Don’t forget the ‘arrested for’ bit – don’t say I did it, or that I confessed to you, because that might drag you into court as a witness. I don’t know if it will, but that’s not a question I dare ask him.”
On arrest, Langford reportedly admitted: “It’s all in there, I know what you’re looking for, I’ve made a mistake and ruined everything.”
Thousands of Indecent Images Found, Sick Chats Exposed
- Five seized devices contained 2,718 indecent images in categories A-C (A is most severe).
- Also uncovered were 199 prohibited and 109 extreme pornographic images.
- Langford used peer-to-peer sites and a cloud platform favoured by paedophiles to trade vile content.
- Officers found disturbing online chats where Langford discussed child rape, encouraged abuse, and detailed tactics to inflict pain and humiliation.
- He also gave others tips on where to find child sexual abuse material online.
Long Career in Education Ends in Shame
Langford worked at secondary schools across Suffolk and Norfolk from 1996 up until his arrest. At the time, he was employed by a free schools trust operating in Beccles, Bury St Edmunds, and Saxmundham.
At Ipswich Crown Court on 10 July, Langford pleaded guilty to multiple charges including indecent assault, possession and distribution of indecent images of children, perverting the course of justice, and possession of extreme pornographic images.
He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on 25 September.
NCA Vows to Protect Children
Holly Triggs, NCA Operations Manager: “Mark Langford grossly abused his position of trust. His offending was despicable and manipulative.
This was clear in how he tried to coerce his victim into lying and the explicit chats he had with other paedophiles online.
The NCA will keep protecting children by hunting down the highest risk offenders and making sure they face justice.”
Langford was fired by his employer in January last year following the investigation.
