Met Police Officer Charged Over Serious Firearms Offence

A serving officer with the Metropolitan Police has been charged with a serious firearms offence after a South London investigation.

PC Andrew Bates Appears in Court

PC Andrew Bates, 59, who works with the Met’s Specialist Operations unit, appeared in custody at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday). He faces charges of possession of a firearm under Section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968.

Met Police Suspends Officer Pending Investigation

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed its Directorate of Professional Standards is handling the case. They said PC Bates has been suspended from duty while criminal proceedings continue.
