Sex Offender Jailed After Bragging on WhatsApp About Attack

A sex offender who brazenly boasted about assaulting a woman on WhatsApp has been locked up. Chiziem Omisa, 25, sexually attacked a young woman in May 2019 after meeting her online and bombarding her with unwanted messages. He initially denied the assault when questioned by police.

Police Snare Culprit Through Messages and Social Media

The victim urged Omisa to stop but didn’t report him at first. However, when police seized Omisa’s phone during an unrelated arrest, a forensic exam uncovered damning evidence. Officers tracked down the woman, who detailed how Omisa, using a fake name, lured her to his student flat in Nottingham after finding her Instagram profile. He then pressured her to keep silent, warning of possible university expulsion if she spoke out.

WhatsApp Boast Seals Omisa’s Fate

Crucial proof came from Omisa’s own WhatsApp messages, sent the day of the attack, in which he bragged about the encounter. This contradicted his initial denials and became key evidence in court. Omisa pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault by penetration and also admitted to stalking two more women while on bail, plus perverting the course of justice.

Jail, Restraining Order & Strict Controls on Release

On June 27, 2024, Omisa of Potters Bar, Hertfordshire was sentenced to four years and four months behind bars at St Albans Crown Court. Along with jail time, he received a restraining order banning any contact with victims. He’s subject to a sexual harm prevention order that demands police access to all electronic devices, registration of social media accounts, and bans unsolicited friend requests to women online.

Police Staff Investigator Kerry Humphreys from Nottinghamshire Police said: “While his behaviour alone may not always be illegal, Omisa’s refusal to accept rejection and harassment of women shows a toxic attitude that led to his conviction.”
