Camberwell Man Found Guilty of Decades-Old Rape and Assault
Colin Moore, 57, from Grove Lane, Camberwell, has been convicted of multiple rapes and indecent assaults against a teenage girl in the 1990s.
Abuse Spanned Four Years Across London
The horrific abuse started in 1995 when the victim was under 16. It continued for four years in west and central London. The victim, now an adult, bravely came forward in 2020 to report the crimes to the Metropolitan Police.
Long Investigation Leads to Arrest and Conviction
Following a thorough police probe, Moore was arrested and charged with numerous sexual offences. At Isleworth Crown Court on Friday, May 24, he was found guilty of four counts of rape and five counts of indecent assault.
Detective Sergeant Laura Harcombe called Moore a “sexual predator” who manipulated and abused a vulnerable young girl he knew.
Despite attempts to excuse his actions during police interviews, the court firmly condemned Moore’s behaviour. He remains in custody ahead of sentencing set for September.
Victim Praised for Courage; Police Reaffirm Commitment
DS Harcombe commended the victim’s bravery in coming forward after years of suffering. Specially trained officers supported her throughout the trial. Authorities expressed hope that the verdict offers her some closure.
Moore’s conviction sends a strong message that law enforcement will relentlessly pursue sexual offenders, no matter how much time has passed.
