Sittingbourne Man Busted for Blackmailing Elderly Woman Out of £1,100

Swift Arrest After Elderly Woman Targeted

A Sittingbourne man has been charged following a shocking blackmail case involving an elderly woman in Hawkinge, Folkestone. Jamie Barrett, 44, from Shortlands Road, was arrested on Wednesday, 13 November after Kent Police received a report that the victim was forced into withdrawing £1,100 from her bank on Tuesday, 12 November.

Charged and Remanded

The very next day, Thursday 14 November, Barrett was charged with making an unwarranted demand for money with menaces. He appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody pending further hearings.

Next Court Date Set

The case is scheduled to be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, 16 December 2024. Kent Police praised their quick action in nabbing the suspect.
