Son Jailed for Life After Stabbing 72-Year-Old Mum to Death in Littlethorpe
A quiet Leicestershire village was shattered by horror when Daniel Cook was sentenced for the brutal killing of his 72-year-old mother, Ellen Cook.
Grim Night on Biddle Road
On the evening of Sunday, 11 May, emergency crews scrambled to Biddle Road after Mrs Cook was found with multiple stab wounds. Despite desperate efforts from passersby and paramedics, she died at the scene.
Witnesses quickly pointed fingers at Daniel, 39, who was seen pacing outside the family home wielding a knife and refusing to cooperate with police.
Taser Used to Bring Killer Son Down
Police faced a tense standoff and resorted to using a Taser to safely arrest Daniel on suspicion of murder. At Leicester Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.
Today (Friday 12 December), Daniel was handed a hybrid sentence, starting with secure hospital detention before transfer to prison when deemed fit.
Police Pay Tribute to Victim’s Family
“This was a horrific incident with very tragic and heartbreaking consequences. A family has been left utterly devastated,” said Detective Superintendent Mark Sinski from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit.
“The family of Mrs Cook have shown immense bravery throughout the investigation. My thoughts remain with them at this most difficult time.
“We thank the witnesses who helped at the scene and supported our enquiries to find answers for Mrs Cook’s family.”
