Son to face trial over mum’s fatal mauling by XL bully dogs

A grieving son is on the ropes, charged with neglect after his mum was savagely killed by two XL bully dogs in her own home.

Horrific Attack in Hornchurch

Angeline Mahal, 50, was brutally mauled at her Hornchurch property on May 20 last year. Police and paramedics stormed the scene following a frantic 999 call. They found Ms Mahal with catastrophic injuries. Despite desperate attempts to save her, she died soon after.

Dogs Found Locked Up

Inside the house, officers discovered the two XL bully dogs, Scarface and Bella, locked away in a separate room. The dogs were allegedly kept in squalid conditions, later confirmed by a vet’s report highlighting serious concerns about their health and welfare.

Son Accused of Neglect and Illegal Possession

Now 26-year-old Rainveer Mahal, son of the victim, faces criminal charges. He denies failing to care for the dogs and possessing a banned fighting breed. Presenting at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on May 1, the accused pleaded not guilty to all three counts.

Trial Set as Debate Over Dangerous Dogs Rages

Mahal’s trial is scheduled for August, where he will be questioned about the neglect that allegedly led to his mum’s death.

This tragic case sharpens the spotlight on dangerous dog breeds. XL bullies were officially banned across England and Wales this year following deadly attacks, stirring national debate on responsible ownership and public safety.
