Steven Wallace, 22, has been sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison for causing the death of 19-year-old Joe Scott in a fatal crash in Newcastle last year.

The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, October 15, when Wallace was driving his BMW at nearly 50mph in a 30mph zone on West Denton Way. He lost control and slammed into a bus stop where Joe Scott and others were waiting.

Joe Scott suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wallace, who lives on Lonnen Avenue, Newcastle, was found to be five times over the legal drug limit at the time of the crash. He pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to multiple offences including death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after the crash, driving while drugged, and driving without insurance.

A court spokesperson said, “Wallace’s reckless actions cost a young life and caused serious injury to others.”

At Newcastle Crown Court, Wallace admitted all charges in July. The judge handed down a prison sentence of seven years and eight months, highlighting the serious consequences of drug-driving and street racing.
