Teenager Charged Over Pensioner’s Fatal Essex House Fire
A 17-year-old boy faces murder and arson charges following a deadly house blaze in Dagenham, Essex. The horrifying fire claimed the life of a pensioner in his 70s. The teenager is due to appear in Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today.
Tragic Blaze on Oval Road North
The fire broke out on the evening of Saturday, 27 July, in Oval Road North. Emergency services rushed to the scene but sadly, the elderly man was pronounced dead at once. His family has been informed, though official identification is yet to be completed.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
The Metropolitan Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 5pm and 6pm on 27 July and witnessed the incident, or anything suspicious nearby, to get in touch. A spokesperson said:
“If you were near Oval Road North during that hour and saw anything, please contact us.”
Authorities are especially keen to gather dashcam footage from passing drivers who might have captured events linked to the fire. Those with information or footage are urged to contact police on 101 or via ‘X’ @MetCC, quoting CAD5619/27Jul. Alternatively, tip-offs can be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
One More Arrest Makes Headway in Investigation
Alongside the charged 17-year-old, another man was arrested but has since been released on bail pending further inquiries. Police continue to piece together the events around this tragic and shocking fire.
