A 17-year-old boy has been locked up for at least 17 years for the murder of 16-year-old Harley Barfield. The shocking killing took place near Strasbourg Square, West Suffolk, on January 9, leaving the local community reeling.
Jealous Rage Behind Deadly Attack
At Ipswich Crown Court, it emerged that the teen attacker was the ex-boyfriend of Harley’s new girlfriend. Jealousy drove him to see Harley as an obstacle to getting back with her. The court heard he lured Harley into a confrontation before stabbing him in a frenzied burst of rage.
Harley was stabbed multiple times, with a fatal blow to the heart. He died in hospital two days later. The attacker admitted carrying the kitchen knife and pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denied murder. However, the jury found him guilty of murder by majority verdict.

Prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC described how the defendant had armed himself and ambushed Harley before fleeing and ditching the weapon. Eyewitnesses, including Harley’s girlfriend, gave chilling accounts of the brutal scene.
