Portslade High Street Brawl: Three Men Jailed After Brutal Street Fight
Three men have been locked up for a savage brawl that erupted on Portslade’s busy high street last year, leaving one victim with serious injuries.
Chaos on Station Road
The violent clash broke out on April 2, 2024, with multiple men fighting using weapons near Station Road and Franklin Road. Emergency services swarmed the scene after frantic calls, as one man suffered a grievous arm wound in the melee.
Over the next two days, Sussex Police arrested nine suspects. Two were quickly released, but seven faced charges and appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court.
Trial Drama and Sentencing
The case hit Brighton Crown Court in November 2024, with four defendants—Kosar Banaee, Hogr Banaee, Kozeen Banaee, and Ali Husseini—acquitted of all charges. However, three men were found guilty and sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on February 25, 2025:
- Sarbast Ibrahimi, 25, from Norfolk – jailed for 2 years 9 months
- Sardam Qadir, 31, from Oldham – jailed for 2 years
- Ayob Mohammed, 21, from Brighton – jailed for 18 months
Police Condemn Horror Fight
Detective Constable Alice Pickard, who led the probe, slammed the attack:
“This violence was not only completely unacceptable, but deeply unsettling for the local community. People going about their daily lives suddenly found themselves in chaos, fearing for their safety.”
“The sentencing of these three individuals sends a clear message about the serious consequences of violent behaviour.”
