Three men are behind bars after a wild crash spree involving three police cars during a frantic getaway in Pewsey.
High-Speed Police Stop Turns Chaotic
On November 19, 2024, cops pulled over a suspicious vehicle on Swan Road, Pewsey, suspected of using stolen number plates. Instead of stopping, the driver launched into a head-on smash with one police car. He then reversed, crashing into a second, before smashing a third cruiser trying to box them in.
Masked Trio Nabbed With Crime Gear
The driver and his two masked passengers, all wearing balaclavas and gloves, were arrested on the spot. Police found tools, a fire extinguisher, and cloned plates inside the car, pointing to plans for theft or worse.
Sentences Handed Out at Winchester Crown Court
- Bernie Ward, 25, from Buckinghamshire, convicted of handling stolen goods, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified. Jailed for 12 months and banned from driving for 30 months.
- John Ward, 22, from Surrey, given 12 months suspended sentence and 120 hours unpaid work for handling stolen goods and being equipped for theft.
- Wesley Ward, 25, from Slough, handed a 12-month community order plus 80 hours unpaid work after pleading guilty to preparing for theft.
PC Ellie Lewis said: “These individuals were determined to evade police, damaging three police vehicles in their desperate attempts to flee. Bernie Ward’s reckless driving put officers and the public at serious risk.”
She added: “Thanks to swift coordination between Thames Valley and Wiltshire Police units, including Roads Policing and Dog sections, the suspects were safely caught and arrested. We’ll never know their exact plans, as none have cooperated with investigators.”
