Rioter Jailed for Throwing Missiles at Police in Middlesbrough Summer Chaos
Violent Disorder Caught on Camera
Harry Waugh, 26, from Stockton, has been locked up for 30 months after hurling missiles at police during the fiery Middlesbrough riots this summer. CCTV footage showed Waugh charging at officers, shouting abuse, and aggressively throwing objects at cops holding up shields to protect themselves.
Despite being hit in the face by a rock from another rioter, Waugh staggered back and continued his violent rampage. He was also caught on camera attacking another man during a brawl in a nearby park, escalating the chaos.
Investigation Leads to Arrest
Thanks to intelligence from Operation Acorn, police tracked down and arrested Waugh. He later pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Teesside Crown Court on December 18.
Judges didn’t hold back, sentencing him to two-and-a-half years behind bars for his part in the violent summer unrest that rocked the borough.
Police Condemn Reckless Behaviour
The actions of individuals like Harry Waugh during the Middlesbrough riots were not only reckless but also put officers and members of the public at significant risk,” a Cleveland Police spokesperson said. “This sentence shows we will not tolerate such behaviour and will continue to bring offenders to justice.”
The investigation into the wider summer riots, which caused widespread damage and disruption across the region, is still ongoing as police sift through more CCTV and gather evidence against other culprits.
Police Urge Public to Help
Officers are appealing to the public for any information on those involved in the riots. Community support remains key to cracking down on violent disorder and bringing more offenders to justice.
