Two Men Charged After Manchester City’s Premier League Win Chaos

Greater Manchester Police have charged two men following the wild celebrations at the Etihad Stadium after Manchester City’s Premier League clinching win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Pyrotechnics and Pitch Trespass

  • Phillip Maxwell, 28, from Knowsley, faces charges for throwing a pyrotechnic onto the pitch. He’s due in Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 May.
  • Paul Colbridge, 37, from Salford, is charged with going onto the pitch and will appear at the same court on 7 June.

Both men have been bailed ahead of their court dates.

Player Assault Under Investigation

Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen was reportedly assaulted amid the post-match pitch invasion by thousands of City fans celebrating their title triumph.

A police spokesman said: “Inquiries into the reported assault of a player on the pitch after the final whistle are ongoing, with officers working closely with both football clubs.”
