Officer Suffers Concussion Amid Violent Arrest

Just before 12:35am on Wednesday, 11 October, officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at Queen Mary Court. Attempting to make an arrest, the situation quickly turned violent. One officer was struck, sustaining a concussion and facial injuries.

Charged: Southend Man and Teen Face Court

  • Benjamin Sharratt, 32, from Southchurch Road, Southend, faces multiple charges: assault by beating, assault on an emergency worker, and criminal damage.
  • He appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on 12 October, denying all allegations.
  • Sharratt remains in custody and is set for trial on 4 December.
  • A 16-year-old boy has also been charged with assaulting an emergency worker.
  • The teenager was released on bail and will appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 14 November.
