Old Rochdale sex abuse claims lead to charges for two men
Victims come forward from 1980s and 1990s abuse
Reports surfaced in 2018 concerning sexual offences against seven victims in Rochdale during the 1980s and 1990s. The investigation uncovered historic abuse involving teenage boys across Bolton, Wythenshawe, and Longsight.
Two men charged with multiple sex offences
Anthony Whitehead, from High Bank, Bolton, faces six counts of indecent assault plus two counts of inciting a boy to commit gross indecency. Mathew Carl Laryea, of Langport Avenue, Longsight, is charged with an array of serious offences including gross indecency, sexual assault, bodily harm, multiple indecent assaults, and false imprisonment.
Victims supported by multi-agency teams
Detectives have collaborated closely with Saint Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre and Survivors manchester/" title="Manchester" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked" data-wpil-monitor-id="5061">Manchester to safeguard victims and provide vital support throughout the probe.
Court dates set for April 2022
Whitehead is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court on 1 April 2022. Laryea’s court hearing is scheduled for 12 April 2022 at the same venue.
