Bridge Climbers Spark Chaos on M25
Morgan Trowland and Marcus Decker kicked off their daring climb up bridge stanchions in the dead of night on 17 October last year.
The pair scaled to about 200 feet above the water, hanging precariously over the busy carriageways below. Their stunt forced the closure of the bridge for a staggering 41 hours.
Massive Disruption and Public Outrage
Claiming it was a protest, Trowland and Decker still caused chaos across the M25 and nearby roads. Hundreds of thousands of commuters faced traffic nightmares. Many lost pay, missed important events, and some even struggled to access urgent medical care.
Rescue and Arrest
By the afternoon of 18 October, specially trained officers successfully removed both men from the bridge. The officers had practised on a specialist raised platform at a local station before the daring rescue operation.
Once safe, Trowland and Decker were arrested on suspicion of causing a public nuisance and later charged.
Guilty Verdict and Sentencing
Despite denying the charges, the duo were found guilty at Southend Crown Court.
On Friday 21 April, the court handed down their sentences. Morgan Trowland, 40, from Islington, was jailed for three years. Marcus Decker, 34, homeless at the time, received two years and seven months behind bars.
