Two Men Jailed for Life Over Brutal Croydon Murder
Two young men have been locked up for life after the savage murder of their former friend, Lucas Sutton, in Croydon. The chilling attack, driven by a twisted sense of betrayal, has left Lucas’s family shattered.
A Deadly Trap Set in Croydon
Keahn Williams, 20, from Coulsdon, and Kai Nelson-Palmer, 17, from Croydon, were found guilty at the Old Bailey in April 2024. On August 14, 2024, Southwark Crown Court sentenced Williams to a minimum of 23 years and Nelson-Palmer to 16 years behind bars.
The 22-year-old victim, Lucas Sutton, was lured to a flat on Princess Road on May 23, 2023, under the guise of meeting friends. After a short visit, the trio set off to buy drinks. But the visit was a deadly setup.
As they walked back along Northbrook Road, Williams lunged with a knife, stabbing Lucas without warning. Dropping his drinks, Lucas tried to flee. Williams chased him down Mayo Road and stabbed him again. Despite critical injuries, Lucas staggered into a nearby pub begging for help before collapsing. Emergency crews arrived fast, but Lucas died shortly after at hospital.
‘Betrayal’ Sparked the Savage Attack
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie of the Metropolitan Police revealed the chilling motive.
“Lucas and one of the defendants had been friends, but they believed Lucas had betrayed them by trying to get rid of a firearm he held. This perceived betrayal fuelled the ruthless attack,” said DCI Howie.
The court heard the murder was coldly planned via Snapchat messages, marking it as a premeditated and callous crime.
Evidence Led to Fast Arrests
Police pieced together CCTV footage showing Williams wearing a distinctive balaclava during the attack — later found at an address linked to him. Nelson-Palmer’s phone also contained incriminating messages outlining the murder plot.
Both suspects were arrested within a week. A third man, 19, was cleared of murder at the Old Bailey on April 3, 2025.
A Family’s Heartbreaking Loss
Lucas’s family issued a heartfelt statement, saying:
“The murder of Lucas has left a large hole in our lives which can never be filled. He wasn’t perfect, but he was ours. His bright future has been stolen. They have taken away a son, grandson, brother, cousin, father, partner, and friend.”
Lucas leaves behind a young son who will now grow up without his dad.
“It breaks our hearts that he will never see his Dad again. We watch him wishing he had the dads his friends have,” the family added.
Justice Served but Pain Remains
DCI Howie praised the courageous witnesses who helped bring the killers to justice.
“This tragic, senseless crime has caused unbearable pain. The sentencing offers some justice, but nothing can ease the family’s loss,” he said.
The case serves as a grim reminder of the brutal consequences of youth violence and betrayal among friends.
