Two jailed for covering up Kerry Newman's death

Robert Halliwell and Melanie Bullen have been locked up for two years each for perverting the course of justice over the tragic death of Kerry Newman, 40. The pair pleaded guilty at Minshull Street Crown Court.

Body moved to hide the truth

Kerry was found dead on land off New Barn Lane on July 17, 2023. CCTV showed Halliwell and Bullen moved her body there in the early hours, trying to hide evidence. A member of the public later discovered Kerry’s remains.

Family mourns a “loving daughter and mother”

Kerry’s grieving mum and stepdad described her as a “loving daughter and mother of two boys, taken away from us too soon.” They added: “She is now in heaven with the angels, rest in peace our beautiful girl.”

Police slam callous cover-up

DI Emma Hulston of Greater manchester/" title="Manchester" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Manchester Police said it was a “heartless act” to leave Kerry without medical help. She welcomed the prison sentences, stating the culprits deserved to be punished.

Police are now preparing a file for the coroner to investigate Kerry’s death further.
