Walthamstow Man Slapped with 44 Shoplifting Charges Across Chingford

A 32-year-old man from Walthamstow has been hit with over 40 shoplifting charges in a sweeping Metropolitan Police crackdown on retail crime in Waltham Forest.

  • 41 counts of theft
  • 2 counts of burglary
  • 1 count of criminal damage

Mark Stavrou, from Sherwood Close, was arrested on Thursday, 21 July, following a series of thefts at supermarkets and petrol stations across Chingford. The offences span from 10 May to 31 July 2025.

Court Dates and Wider Investigation

Stavrou is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court today (Friday, 1 August) to face these fresh charges. The Met revealed he is already facing 67 burglary charges from earlier offences and will enter a plea on those on Thursday, 7 August.

Police say this case is part of a broader push to tackle retail crime and repeat offending in the North East 1 area.
