Prison Officer Caught in Sex Scandal with Inmate
A Wandsworth prison officer has pleaded guilty after a steamy rendezvous with an inmate was filmed and spread across social media. Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, from Fulham, admitted misconduct in public office at Isleworth Crown Court in West London.
Scandal Rocks Wandsworth Prison
Police launched an investigation when a video showing De Sousa Abreu engaging in sexual acts with a prisoner went viral. The incident happened between June 26 and 28 inside HMP Wandsworth, sparking outrage and raising serious questions about security and conduct behind bars.
Wearing a light suit and brown top, De Sousa Abreu stayed calm during her court appearance. She had planned a trip to Madrid and informed prison officials of her itinerary — but was arrested at Heathrow Airport instead.
Bail Released with Portuguese Passport
The charge accuses her of “wilful misconduct without reasonable excuse,” a serious breach of public trust. Her actions bring fresh scrutiny to prison staff conduct and the integrity of the penal system.
De Sousa Abreu, who holds a Portuguese passport, was released on bail with conditions. She is set to return to Isleworth Crown Court for sentencing on November 7.
Crown Prosecutor Condemns Breach of Trust
“This was a shocking breach of the public’s trust,” said CPS prosecutor Tetteh Turkson. “De Sousa was clearly an enthusiastic participant who wrongly thought she would avoid responsibility.”
The case has sparked debate on how prison staff are monitored and held accountable, underscoring the need to protect the integrity of the criminal justice system from insider corruption.
