South London Woman Banned from Owning Dogs After Labradoodle Starves to Death
A woman from Tooting, south London, has been slapped with a five-year ban on owning dogs after her chocolate labradoodle, Shiloh, was found starving to death. Mercy Mujinya-Motima admitted to animal welfare offences at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on February 27.
Shocking Condition of Starving Pup
Mujinya-Motima brought Shiloh to Blue Cross animal hospital, where vets discovered the poor dog weighed just 5.8kg – dangerously emaciated. The cause of death was severe malnourishment sustained over six months. Despite her frail state, Shiloh’s fur was well-groomed and her nails clipped, sparking suspicion.
Inspector Harriet Daliday said: “Shiloh was extremely underweight with all ribs, hips, and spine sharp and easily felt. There was absolutely no fat or muscle on her body. Her eyes were sunken with a gunky discharge.”
No Veterinary Care Until Last Days
Mujinya-Motima never took Shiloh to a vet since she was eight weeks old. The pup was registered with a vet just five days before her death. In court, the defendant said she was remorseful and had no plans to own dogs again.
Breeder and Authorities React
The breeder was horrified, stating they had sold Shiloh as a healthy puppy to a caring family. As punishment, Mujinya-Motima was ordered:
- Five-year ban on owning dogs
- £400 costs
- 12-month community order with a 12-week curfew
- Electronic tagging
This grim case is a stark warning about the brutal consequences of neglecting pet welfare and the need for responsible animal ownership.
