Detectives have charged a 61-year-old woman with the murder of a nine-and-a-half-month-old baby boy in Hapton, Lancashire. The tragic case began on March 1 last year when emergency services rushed to a home where the infant was reportedly suffering a medical emergency.
Baby Dies Despite Hospital Treatment
Despite immediate medical care and treatment at the hospital, the baby sadly died on March 5. The family continues to receive support from specially trained officers during this heartbreaking time.
Investigation Narrows to Karen Foster
Initially, a 60-year-old woman from Haslingden and a 78-year-old man from Burnley were arrested in March on suspicion of Section 18 Assault. After further inquiries and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, the 78-year-old man was released without charge.
The investigation now focuses on the woman, Karen Foster, 61, who has no fixed address. She has been charged with the baby’s murder and will appear before Blackburn Magistrates’ Court today, July 5.
Additional Assault Charge Against Foster
Foster also faces a separate charge of Section 47 assault relating to a one-year-old girl in Hapton, dating back to March 22, 2019. Neither child is related to Foster, nor to each other, highlighting the disturbing nature of the incidents.
Police and court authorities continue to handle the case with urgency as details unfold.
